Identity

Chronically Ill, Polyamorous, Kinky, Geek
These words do not define me
But they inform who I am
As a person, a friend, and a lover

Two out of four are not shown
To the general public
To my family
They only get half of who I am

Strangers rarely get to see
Except Librarian, Quiet, Shy
If I’m at work
Or see my Geek flag fly
At certain events where it is expected

There are so many labels
And othering
But mine are invisible
Unless I turn on the light

Otherwise the mask holds tight
To look normal
To be acceptable
To get along

Chafing that I must hide
But well aware
That others cannot
And are punished
For their brightness
